About

Hey there, Stella here, founder and creator of Stitch Up. I started this brand when I was 19 years old in Margaret River. I had packed up from my childhood home in South Australia and decided to head west in search of purpose, adventure and new waves.

I took a sewing machine with me along the way and my love for op-shopping had equipped me with scavenged vintage fabrics. The idea was born when I was surf coaching and saw a beautiful hand sewn board cover, I was immediately inspired and told my boss about the idea on how I could upcycle my fabrics that I had sitting around. We both started pondering on names to call this project and he just said, “Stitch Up.” I loved it. Thanks Simon.

Fast forward to 2025, living on the South Coast of NSW, I picked up an old hobby of mine that I used to love in school; Lino block printing. This medium teaches me patience and the carving process is meditative. I also love how you don’t really know what it will look like before you print it. I am forever inspired by the Australian bush, nature and surfing. By merging these two concepts of recycled materials/garments and being able to print my artwork on fabric, Stitch Up evolved into recycled clothing with my artwork prints on calico that I had sourced in op shops.

I feel that as I am growing and evolving in this modern, fast paced world, ever so slowly Stitch Up is too. With everything being handmade by myself, collections of clothing and surf-wear come to fruition over time. This is also why I have made my art prints available for purchase.

This is not a fast-paced mass-produce surf brand. Drops are limited and piece are unique. It means the world that people are supporting not only myself and this project, but also what Stitch Up stands for. There is already enough shit in the world, and I believe that we should be upcycling and reusing everything that we can, when we can. Sustainability is a practice that I want to continue forever as Stitch Up grows.

Thank you, guys, for being a part of the journey. Stay weird.
